PRESIDIO – Border residents in Presidio and Ojinaga will finally get a peek at Anthony Bourdain’s take on the region in the upcoming episode of the Peabody- and Emmy- award winning CNN original series, “Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown.” The episode airs on Sunday, October 21, and the series is in its final season following Bourdain’s death in June of this year. Although Bourdain was sighted at various locations in Far West Texas during his visit in the spring, it was not clear at the time what area highlights the show would focus on. Bourdain said of the show, “It’s about people.” And when pressed about what’s being documented, he said we’d have to watch the show when it is aired in the fall, he told the Presidio International. The award-winning author and host of his globe-trotting show died June 8 of an apparent suicide in France. According to CNN, the episode will focus on “Bourdain’s travels to the untamed land of Big Bend, Texas near the Mexican border, an area that pits man against nature and in which the land usually wins. Bourdain shares meals with working cowboys who have made peace with the rough terrain, and meets with an anthropologist who decoded a prehistoric landmark White Shaman wall painting.” Producers of the show returned to the region in recent months while working to finalize the episode. Sandro Canovas of Marfa said the show’s producers came back recently to develop voiceover takes for the footage shot in the spring since Bourdain was not able to complete this storytelling work before his death. Canovas and others featured in the episode were asked to talk about the places they went with Bourdain and some of the experiences they had. Sandro said he took the producers back to a desert location in Mexico where Bourdain shared time to himself and said he enjoyed being in a place where he was not recognized for his fame. Also interviewed and likely to appear in the show are JP David Beebe of Marfa, Primo Carrasco of Marfa, Rainer Judd of Marfa and Presidio Mayor and educator John Ferguson. Ferguson said his band might be featured in the show as well as his conversations with Bourdain about the border wall and his daughter’s cross border love story. Ramona Tejada of Marfa Burrito was asked to provide her asado burrito recipe to be included on the Parts Unknown website. The final, seven episode series began in September of this year and also includes trips to Indonesia, Spain, New York City’s lower east side, and two specials. Each episode of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown will be available On Demand the day after the broadcast premiere on cable VOD, CNN mobile app, and on CNNgo via Roku, AppleTV, Amazon Fire, Samsung TV, Android TV and desktop at www.cnn.com/go.
