Day of the Dead: Portraits of Historical Figures now on exhibit at Sul Ross

ALPINE – Day of the Dead: Portraits of Historical Figures, a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts capstone exhibition by Calandria Martinez, is now on exhibit in Sul Ross State University’s Francois Gallery. The Gallery is located in the Francois Fine Arts Building and is open Monday–Friday from 8am–5pm. An evening reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, November 1 from 5–7pm. The exhibit will close November 2. Calandria’s exhibition is a series of portraits depicting influential musicians, artists, actors, and politicians with half of their faces transformed into calavera skulls. Such skulls are traditionally created to honor the deceased during the Mexican Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead).
