Presidio students participate in the XXII National Rodeo Championship 2018 in Chihuahua City

CHIHUAHUA, CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO – On November 6th, the XXII National Rodeo Championship 2018 kicked off in the city of Chihuahua, where Kelly Baeza, a student from Presidio High School, will be represented as Miss Rodeo High School Chihuahua, a contest she won and which allows her to represent that state.

During the national rodeo finals, the national queen contest will be held to choose the champion who will then go on to be Miss Rodeo High School Mexico, representing Mexico in the world finals in July 2019 in Rock Springs Wyoming.

“Kelly Baeza will be competing in the high school division of Girls Breakaway Roping and Goat Tying. She is currently in her sophomore year at Presidio High School and, as parents, we are very proud that our children feel supported in each goal they set forth,” commented Eduardo Baeza, the participant’s father.

Kelly´s brother, Eduardo Baeza Colomo, who is currently in his sixth year at the Lucy Rede Franco Middle School, will be competing for his fourth consecutive year in a national final in the following Junior High School categories: Boys Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping and Chute Dogging lots at the Junior High level. Eduardo started riding on horseback when he was four years old and competing when he was seven. He and his sister have competed in the best rodeos in Mexico in the states of Chihuahua, Sonora and Nuevo Leon within the professional circuit of the Mexican Rodeo Federation (FMR) and the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA).

Another outstanding young rodeo cowboy is Luis Dominguez, who is currently in his freshman year at Presidio High School and is among the best bull riders in this grand finale. Luis started riding bulls when he was 14 and has also traveled the roads year after year along with Eduardo and Kelly, always trying to take first place in the competitions. He is currently participating in the High School rodeo category, but during the year he is also active in the bull category, trying to rub shoulders with rodeo greats and improve his technique.

The entire FMR and NHSRA rodeo circuits started at the beginning of 2018 with a lot of work, practice, and sacrifice. These young people will be representing Presidio in Chihuahua with pride from November 6 to 10. They are participating via a motorized “transfer” process from NHSRA USA to NHSRA MX.

“We hope that future generations have the care and interest to continue promoting this beautiful sport,” said Eduardo Baeza.
