Lady Devils earn runner-up spot in district standings

ALPINE – The Presidio Lady Devils travelled to Alpine on Friday and defeated the Lady Bucks in basketball action with a score of 28-24. “It was a great defensive battle by both teams,” said Coach Alonzo Samaniego. Leading scorers for the Lady Devils were Ivett Ramos and Nathalia Montemayor with 8 points each. “With that win we secured the runner-up spot in the district standings,” said Samaniego. Tuesday evening the Lady Devils played against the Tornillo Lady Coyotes at home. “We lost 30-40, but played a really good gam,” Samaniego said. “It was a close game the entire night. It was a great improvement considering they beat us by 40+ points the first time we played them.” Leading scorers for the Lady Devils were Crystal Barriga with 9 points and Nathalia Montemayor with 8 points. The Lady Devils overall record is 13-13 and 7-3 in district.  “We will be playing a tune-up game vs Pecos this Friday at 4:30 in Marfa,” Samaniego said, “And our playoff game will be on February 11 against Sonora. The game will be at 6 pm in Fort Stockton.
