PRESIDIO COUNTY – A 28-year-old man from Mexico escaped serious injury when the hay truck he was driving overturned Monday on U.S. 67 between Presidio and Marfa.
The accident occurred about 15 miles south of the Marfa Border Patrol checkpoint, said Presidio County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Joel Nuñez.
The driver was identified as Cornelius Doerksen Friesen, working for a Chihuahua logistics firm. He had exited the truck cab and was walking around when first responders arrived.
Feiesen told authorities the hay load was apparently stacked too high, which caught a wind gust on a curve, causing the tractor-flatbed rig to overturn.
On the scene were Presidio County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety highway patrol troopers.
