PRESIDIO – The annual Scholarship Night banquet was held at Presidio High School last Thursday for the Class of 2019.
More than $70,000 in college scholarships was awarded to 35 soon-to-be graduates.
Approximately 150 student applicants, parents, teachers, administrators, and PISD and Presidio Education Foundation board members were in attendance.
Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal while students had the opportunity to socialize with parents, educators, and donors.
Shortly after dinner the Master of Ceremony, Presidio High School counselor, John Ferguson, welcomed the audience. President of the Presidio Education Foundation, Brian Vasquez, then addressed the Class of 2019. Vasquez stressed the importance of thanking their scholarship donors. He then went on to teach the students the vision statement of the foundation, “Making a difference in Presidio and beyond through education.” Giving examples of how Presidio educators and scholarship donors have fulfilled this vision, he encouraged the students to study hard so they too can Make a difference in Presidio and beyond. Vasquez closed by showing the students a ‘challenge coin’ that each of them will receive along with their diploma at graduation. He described the features and meaning of the challenge coin and told the students, “Carry the coin with you along your journey. Bring it back in 10, 20, or 30 years and share your story of how you Made a difference in Presidio and beyond!”
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the scholarship recipients. A total of 75 scholarships were awarded to the sum of $70,000. Vasquez stated, “This dollar amount is much greater than last year. This is a textbook example of the community ‘Making a difference in Presidio and beyond’ by investing in each of you.”

For a second year in a row, the Presidio Education Foundation set up a smart photo-booth, allowing students to take photos with their friends and family and instantly receive the photos via email or text.
