MARFA – Dr. Marco Garcia, grandson of life long Marfa residents Armando and Lucy Garcia, and youngest son of Leticia Garcia and the late Glenn Garcia, recently earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Dr. Marco graduated as Valedictorian from Marfa High School in 2004, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX where he participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program – The Donne Variorum; Archeological field work – Center for the Study of the First Americans, Debra L. Friedkin Site, TX.
He soon found himself amongst the beautiful mountain ranges of southern Montana where in 2013 he then earned his Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Certificate at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. He volunteered as a math tutor for migrant children in the Cuenta Con Migo program, teaching lessons outdoors in the fields of Las Huertas de Cerezas in Flathead Lake, MT.
By 2015, he was accepted to the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, MS where he again participated as a volunteer, this time traveling to Huancayo, Peru for the Global Medicine Initiative.
On May 25, 2019, he was cloaked at a William Carey University commencement ceremony in Hattiesburg, MS as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine to the raucous applause of several proud and loving family members.
Dr. Marco Garcia will spend the next three years 2019-2022 as Resident Physician, Department of Family and Community Medicine at St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.
