City looking for HOT committee interim member

MARFA – The City of Marfa Hotel Tax Grants Committee (HOT) is seeking a new interim member to round out the committee. This new interim position will last from the time the new member is appointed until Sept 2020.

The City of Marfa receives taxes on hotel and residential stays, and each quarter, a percentage of these funds goes toward support for local events that encourage tourism in Marfa (arts and culture events, sports events, and historical preservation) and also toward advertising to publicize these events.

The committee is made up of Mayor Manny Baeza plus six members of the community, representing the arts community and the hotel industry in Marfa, and also community members at large. This interim member may come from the Marfa community at large. Please submit a letter of interest by 5pm on Friday, July 5 to HOT Committee Chair, Deirdre Hisler at hotgrants@cityofmarfa.com.

• Review of grant applications prior to actual meetings may take up to 4 hours for Q1/Q2 and Q3/ Q4 Event grants, and 1-2 hours for Advertising grants, all dependent on the number of grant applications received.

• The HOT Committee vets applicants and forwards suggestions to Marfa City Council for approval.

• All interested applicants shall be requested to be present at the Marfa City Council meeting whenever the item is placed on the agenda for action.

• All letters of interest shall be included in the Council packet.

• The committee meets approximately seven times per fiscal year to review and discuss grant applications. There may be times (possibly two) when the committee shall also need to meet to take care of administrative housekeeping.
