Festivities aplenty for 4th of July celebration

FAR WEST TEXAS – Tri-county residents have multiple opportunities for celebrating the 4th of July with events happening throughout the region. The City of Presidio’s annual 4th of July celebration brings a night of live music, an open mic, food and fireworks Friday, July 5 at Daly Park. Festivities start at 4 p.m.

There is an open mic from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for people to sing, read poetry or share something to say. Those participating must sign up for a slot.

Music will be provided by Sauna from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and The Resonators will close out the night playing from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The pool will offer free admission and will be open until 10 p.m. There will be fireworks near the pool.

Ft. Davis festivities run from July 4 at 8 a.m. to July 6 at 5 p.m. The Coolest 5K Fun Run to benefit the Higher Education Foundation kicks off the weekend. Then get ready for festivities to begin at the courthouse Thursday at noon. There will be vendors offering a variety of gifts, art, delicious food and games. Vendors will be set up around the courthouse Thursday from noon until six and Friday and Saturday from ten until six.

Thursday is a back-to-back line-up of musicians featuring locals JP “Jalapeño” Schwartz, Lisa Kettyle, JR Harrell, Hawk Sullivan and Austin duo Jeff Hilgart and Aaron Bennack. There will be a salsa contest and cornhole tournament.

The Cowboy Hypnotist will be putting folks to sleep on stage Friday and Saturday at 11am and 3pm. Folks can volunteer to be hypnotized by showing up at the courthouse stage prior to show times.

The Gun Show and Bank Robbery is presented by The Legends of Texas, a theatre group that specializes in slap stick, western comedy. People can catch a show Friday or Saturday at 1 and 5 p.m. Shows will be located near the Chamber of Commerce in Memorial Square.

The Great Fireworks Show will light up the sky from the Jeff Davis County Park Friday beginning at dark. Line up early to get the best view.

Alpine’s July 4th celebration kicks off with a parade at 4 p.m. The lineup begins at 3:15 p.m. at Porter’s Thriftway on 5th and Sul Ross Ave. Sign up on parade day.

Festivities will take place at Kokernot Park in Alpine. The Resonators will perform all evening and the Community Band will perform at 7:30pm. A hot dog eating contest begins at 7 p.m. with Big Canyon TV sponsoring this event. Mystic Gitanas will perform at 9 p.m. with spectacular fireworks at dark.

Get your classic cars, your hot rods, your weekend warrior cars out for the parade and plan on parking them at Kokernot Park after the parade for all to enjoy. No entry fee.
