VALENTINE – The City of Valentine held its scheduled city commission
meeting on Wednesday July 10th. The commission voted to move forward on learning more about options for addressing the speed on U.S. 90 running through town. “Some residents living on Hwy 90 feel like it’s a little fast, but I think we kind of also agree that it’s not necessarily the speed limit, it’s the fact that people are speeding,” said Valentine Mayor Summer Webb. “We don’t have a whole lot of enforcement available to enforce the speed limit that we have.”

Webb spoke with TxDOT to find out what could be done and what help the state can offer. She will share her findings at the next city meeting. The current in-town speed limit in Valentine is 45 mph. TxDOT lowered the speed limit from West of Valentine past the Prada store from 75 mph to 65 mph after an intervention by state senator Jose Rodriguez.
