For the first time in years, the Presidio Lady Blue Devils this week remained the only undefeated team in the district — sweeping the first round of district play, with a 3-0 win against the Lady Cranes. The team opens the second round of district play this Saturday against the Alpine Lady Bucks. (JV is at 12 p.m. and Varsity is at 1:30 p.m.) Their current standing is 5-0, with five more matches to come.
In other Presidio ISD sports news, Presidio varsity girls cross country last weekend claimed second place at the Big Bend Mountain Ramble at the Paisano Baptist Encampment just outside of Alpine.
The varsity girls finished with 70 points — 15 points behind 6A Odessa High School. The girls competed very well and ran a great race, school officials say — the result of a great week of practice.
The JV Girls also finished in 2nd place with 31 points. The middle school girls finished in 7th place with 326 points. There were a total of 163 runners competing in the JH girls division.
The next race will be on Thursday in Odessa at the UTPB park. It will be the final tune-up race before the district meet on October 17.
