NEW YORK — Marfa Public Radio took home three National Edward R. Murrow Awards Monday night at the yearly awards gala in New York City. The Radio Television Digital News Association gave honors to Marfa’s local station for Excellence in Social Media, Multimedia and Feature Reporting in the small market radio category for 2018.
General Manager Elise Pepple and reporters Diana Nguyen, Carlos Morales and Sally Beauvais attended the NYC event to accept their recognitions.
Beauvais was awarded Feature Reporting accolades for her story “Without Hospice, Who Gets To Die In The Big Bend?” and it was the station’s coverage of the McDannald Ranch fire and of child separation policies in Tornillo that led to the Excellence in Social Media win.
The Murrow Awards recognize “news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community.”
