MARFA – Marfa City Secretary Rachel Whatley announced her resignation during last week’s city meeting. She served in the role for over seven years and departs in order to join the staff at AEP Texas.
Mayor Manny Baeza said, “Rachel has done a great job for the city in the past few years. She will be missed. That said, I wish her well in her new endeavor. I’m certain that she will do a great job for AEP Texas.”
Whatley will serve two more weeks, and the job has already been posted on the Texas Municipal League’s website.
Baeza said the city wants to fill the city manager vacancy soon, and then have the new leadership discuss revising the responsibilities of the city secretary role. He mentioned the possibility of shifting responsibilities between the other soon-to-be vacant role of assistant to the city manager.
Whatley’s resignation is the third for the city this year, with Peggy O’Brien leaving the role of assistant to the city manager and Terry Brechtel departing from the city manager role previously.
