PRESIDIO COUNTY — An Odessa man was arrested Friday after allegedly leaving another man with severe injuries in a hit-and-run accident.
According to Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 67 about eight miles south of Marfa. After a brief pursuit, authorities arrested the suspect — Odessa resident Pedro Chavez — near Presidio.
Chavez was allegedly passing in a Dodge dually truck when he collided with another driver in a Chevrolet pickup. That driver was transported to Big Bend Regional Medical Center after he hit a guard rail and spun out of control.
Presidio County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment on whether Chavez had allegedly hit oncoming traffic. The victim — Eusebio Espinoza Acosta — suffered from neck and back injuries as well as a possible concussion, authorities said. His current condition is unknown.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident, authorities said.
