Judd Foundation opens membership option for supporters

MARFA — Judd Foundation recently opened up an annual membership option for their supporters to donate through. The program officially launched in December 2019.

“We have been working on our buildings as part of the Judd Foundation Marfa Restoration Plan, first with the Architecture Office,” Rainer Judd, president of Judd Foundation, said. “We wanted to develop a new way to develop stronger relationships and a sense of community with those who have supported our work for so long.”

As a nonprofit organization, she says that Judd Foundation relies, in part, on the support they receive for programs, building maintenance and general operating, among other needs.

“Don was vocal in his writing, and in person, as to the importance of communities and government taking care to provide for all people,” Rainer said. “It has everything to do with having a healthy society, a respected environment and a democracy. These are much larger ideas, but membership is our way of opening up to a greater number of people at a smaller commitment level monetarily.”

Judd Foundation raises approximately 40 percent of its budget each year. This includes the support of individuals, corporations, government, and foundations like The Brown Foundation and the Permian Basin Area Foundation.

Memberships are valid for one year after purchase and allow Judd supporters to choose one of three tiers. For $100 a year, a single membership includes one complimentary public visit in New York or Marfa, priority booking for public visits, a discount on merchandise (sans furniture, of course), and invitations to public events and openings. For $175, you get two complimentary public visits in New York or Marfa and all the perks listed above. Finally, a $500 benefactor membership level is also available and includes four public visits, everything listed above and access to special private events.

“I think the reason the new membership program is special is that it provides a sense of community for our loyal friends and donors who may not able to give at the Patron level,” Rainer said. Patron level donations begin at an annual giving amount of $1,000 and go up to $25,000. The perks include private visits to Judd Foundation spaces, holding events in Judd spaces and more.

The majority of each donation given via membership or being a patron is tax deductible and you can find out more information through juddfoundation.org. Tri-County residents can visit Judd Foundation’s Marfa spaces for free with a reservation.
