PRESIDIO — Three people are facing charges after border authorities last month made a weapons seizure at the Presidio/Ojinaga Port of Entry.
On January 29, agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Presidio found four .22 caliber handguns hidden under the seats of a 2018 GMC Silverado truck that was crossing into the United States. The truck had tried to enter Mexico but was denied entry and turned around, according to CBP.
Authorities arrested both occupants of the vehicle: Pricilla Bustos Martinez, 39, and Jessica Tagle, 35, both of whom are U.S. citizens. Later, authorities learned that the women were “connected” to a third person who had an open manslaughter warrant in Austin, according to a news release from the agency.
Homeland Security Investigations, which is handling the case, declined to offer details on that third individual, citing the active investigation. The U.S. attorney’s office plans to prosecute all three people, according to HSI.
Border authorities “sometimes open the door to the discovery of other illegal activity,” Fred Hutterer, Presidio port director, said in a statement. “By working closely with our DHS partners at Homeland Security Investigations, a dangerous person was taken into custody.”
