Eighth annual Camp Summer Shake Up starts Monday, June 1

MARFA — Camp Summer Shake Up is a free, summer program for students in prekindergarten through eighth grade, offered by a group of area nonprofit organizations working together with Marfa ISD. The camp, started in 2013, provides fun activities and free, healthy meals each year during the month of June.

This year’s camp will feature the same kind of fun programs local kids are familiar with – DJ Camp, story time, physical activity, art classes, dance, and more – but will be offered through online videos, social media posts, and activity packets. Camp organizers are making sure that students will be able to participate in a safe, socially-distanced way and on their family’s own schedule.

Families can count on the Marfa ISD school cafeteria staff to continue to provide free, nutritious breakfast and lunch to any student ages 18 and under through June 30. This summer the meals will all be served to-go.

Schedules, videos and all program information will be online at campsummershakeup.org. Packets and materials will be passed out at the school cafeteria. Meals will be delivered to the same five meal delivery sites set up since the school closed earlier this spring.

There’s no registration needed. Please check the website, summershakeup.org, regularly for updates and more information. For families who may need assistance getting their child online or accessing the website, please call (432) 935-1225.
