FORT DAVIS — The Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds for struggling service industry employees that have been laid off or had their hours drastically cut due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since the April 3 launch, the fundraiser has raised $3,660. The fundraiser will continue until May 15. Then all funds raised will be issued to applicants in the form of grocery store gift certificates. Donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-fort-davis039s-service-industry or mailed to the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce at PO Box 378, Fort Davis, Texas 79734.
“Seventeen generous Fort Davis locals have already donated to the campaign,” said Melissa Henderson, director at the chamber. “I am so thankful for the generosity of our community.”
Applicants can apply to receive the funds on the chamber website at www.fortdavis.com. To be eligible to receive the funds, applicants must be a Jeff Davis County service worker who has lost employment due to coronavirus-related closures. Employers must verify applicants’ employment and reasons for layoffs.
“Service workers are our servers, bartenders and restaurant employees,” said Henderson, “but also include cleaning crews, hair stylists, short-term rental management, landscaping and other management jobs for hotels and rentals.”
Interested donors or people that need the funds can find more information on the Go Fund Me site or at www.fortdavis.com.
