Joe Ray Lane, 90, was born March 10, 1930 in El Paso, Texas to Joe and Dollie Lane. He passed away on April 9, 2020 after a short illness. He was a resident of Flower Mound Assisted Living in Flower Mound, Texas. Joe Ray had lived in the Lewisville-Flower Mound area for 22 years. He lived in El Paso for 45 years, working as draftsman in the area, before becoming a cartoonist. His cartoons have appeared in The El Paso Times, The Lewisville News, The Denton Record Chronicle, and The Wall Street Journal.
Joe Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Jack Lane.
He is survived by a sister, Mary, and husband James White of Flower Mound; a niece, Deborah and husband Adrian Farr and their children, Joshua, Benjamin, Zachary, Joy, Samuel and Lydia of Cleveland, Texas; and a nephew, James Michael White and wife Jennifer of Durango, Colorado.
Joe graduated from Marfa High School in 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Army, 1951-1952, receiving a Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and a United Nations Service Medal.
Services are pending due to the coronavirus restrictions.
