Dear editor, I always enjoy Lonn Taylor’s Rambling Boy column, but his story of time spent with Ima Hogg was special. His narrative of the eccentricities and strengths of the daughter of one of our most colorful governors brought her to life and seated her in my living room. I now feel connected to that legendary person through Lonn, and only two handshakes away in this case. Lonn’s way of seeing life and living is unique, and we are blessed to have his comments weekly in our newspaper. Regards,

Dear editor, There’s chaos at the Texas border, and here’s a list of points to consider: Both criminals and asylum seekers attempt to enter the US daily. Punishment of innocents does not reduce criminal activity. As a priority, all children must be protected and cared for. Violent crime deterrence requires a completely different response from Non-violent crime deterrence. Non-violent crimes do not merit death. Policies of ‘zero tolerance’ and ‘zero responsibility’ unfairly equate punishment of innocents with punishment of criminals, and result in unsafe conditions becoming less safe. National security funding should align with laws to both protect and defend the constitution. Congress must provide continuous oversight and enforcement of our laws to ensure fairness and to avoid corruption. Executive policy waivers which negatively impact human rights are not sanctioned by the US or other progressive nations of the world. Justice demands protection of the innocent along with punishment of the guilty. Respectfully,

Trump willfully and forcibly continues separating children from families/responsible adult(s). They’re kept under intolerable overcrowded conditions, denied appropriate nutrition, medical and emotional care, https://is.gd/DO6dd9, Bare hours in soiled diapers create a painful rash is the least of it! “Zero Tolerance” is an intentional effort to convey a message of cruelty to those risking coming north! The “Unimaginable Reality of American Concentration Camps” was a feature story documenting this slide into Evil was documented in a recent New Yorker article, https://is.gd/6xzQlNWhat say the Bible about stone-cold Evil being perpetrated against children? Follower of Jesus, Matthew 25:45 “ … whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me”, https://is.gd/Smxgue or Pharisee? This cannot be glossed-over or ignored. It becomes a matter of our conscience and the mirror about responding to the horrors committed in our name(s) and taking a personal inventory other than looking the other way because of some false notion it doesn’t affect me. Each citizen has an obligation to see that the worst of our primitive human impulses does NOT prevail!
