Celebration of Lonn Taylor’s Life

MARFA – A celebration of life for Lonn Taylor will be held Thursday, August 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church on the Courthouse square in Marfa. All are welcome.

Taylor was most known in Far West Texas as the go-to local historian and for his weekly column, the Rambling Boy, which was published weekly in The Big Bend Sentinel and aired the following morning on Marfa Public Radio. Each column shared stories about Texas, filled with details and enthusiasm, no matter the topic.

Marfa residents gathered at various local businesses to watch Lonn interact with Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central’s TV show, The Colbert Report, in 2014. Lonn chatted about his book, The Star-Spangled Banner: The Flag That Inspired a National Anthem, for the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key’s poem that would become the national anthem.

He wrote numerous books about the local character and past events in the region. One of his most notable is Marfa for the Perplexed that was published in 2018 through Marfa Book Co.
