The Marfa Shorthorns defeated Buena Vista on the road Friday night after a strong running game helped bulldoze Marfa into the endzone several times.
The 45-14 victory came in the form of several touchdowns by Aron Guzman Morales, Jordan Rodriguez, Levi Hinojos, and Adrian Catano. Guzman-Morales ran for 3 touchdowns, at 31, 33 and 25 yards. Rodriguez had a 4 yard TD and 14 yard TD reception. Hinojos had a 43 yard touchdown and interception. Adrian Catano had a 15 yard TD for Marfa’s offense.
The young squad continues to make strong strides on the field by putting together an extensive weight and conditioning program that has helped them build a strong ground game and tenacious defense. Marfa has a BYE week this week and returns to action on the road next Friday, October 18th at Fort Hancock for a 6:30 CST kickoff time.
Marfa’s volleyball team remains in third place in the volleyball district standings and hopes to move up in the second round of district play. With wins over Grandfalls and Balmorhea, the Lady Horns are hanging on to the final playoff position and need to do so for the next two weeks.
Marfa’s current offensive leader is Brianna Sanchez with several kills in each of the first round games and multiple blocks on attacks. The Lady Horns will face Grandfalls on the road Saturday afternoon with a 12:00 and 1:00 start time.
