Marfa100’s best year yet

MARFA — This year’s Marfa100 bike race held on FM 2810 was the most successful year since it’s conception in 2010. 111 riders registered from far and wide, and the weather couldn’t have been better.

This year’s overall male winner was 23-year-old Miguel Mattox, with a time of 2:46:14. Miguel, the nephew of Minerva and Delphin Lopez, came down from Brooklyn to race, and rode along with his mother and father. He says he will definitely be back next year to defend his title.

The overall female winner was 44-year-old Annie Elmendorf from San Antonio with a time of 3:26:31. Top local finishers were Manu Fresno from Terlingua taking 2nd place at 2:59:18, and Scott Del Vecchio from Alpine, taking 3rd place at 3:06:11. Great thanks go out to all support staff and the amazing folks at the Water Stop who provided an excellent celebration for revelers and riders alike. This will be the last year for Joey Benton and Faith Gay to organize the race, as they have handed the reigns to Zeke Raney and Elizabeth Farrell.
