PRESIDIO COUNTY — The county will consider a new mass gathering permit application after their October 9 meeting saw citizens present an alternative, more stringent application model than the one that was being considered for a vote. Commissioners postponed that October 9 vote in order to gather more information about an application passed by Grimes County, which could be a model for Presidio.
A county commissioners workshop and subsequent meeting will happen Friday, November 1 at the courthouse. Officials hope to vote on the new permit application. As of press time, the application had not been made available to the public.
Judge Cinderela Guevara said the workshop agenda will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., but if discussion is shorter, they may adjourn early. Commissioners will convene again later that afternoon at 1:30 p.m. to vote on the newly proposed mass gathering permit application process. The county has discussed mass gatherings for the better half of a year after an event was proposed earlier this year by C3 Presents.
Citizens at the October 9 meeting presented a recently passed permit application from Grimes County, a small area outside of Houston, where a yearly renaissance festival welcomes tens of thousands of visitors.
That county’s application is seventeen pages long and included more restrictions, requirements and requests than the Travis County application commissioners almost voted on.
