PRESIDIO COUNTY – The filing window to run for county office closes Monday, December 9, and as of press time, only three candidates have signed up to seek positions in Presidio County. The three filers are all incumbents, with no challengers.
On the Democratic ticket, Danny Dominguez has filed for Sheriff, Brenda Bentley for County Commissioner of Precinct 1 and Rod Ponton for County Attorney, according to Presidio Democratic County Chair Clark Childers.
The county’s Republican Chair Ruben Rodriguez said this week that nobody has filed to run on the Republican side in Presidio County.
The nine positions up for election are County Sheriff, Constable 1, Constable 2, Tax Assessor-Collector, District Judge, District Attorney, County Attorney, Commissioner Precinct 1 and Commissioner Precinct 3. The primary elections will take place on March 3, 2020.

Independents looking to run for office may file a declaration of intent with the county judge, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
