FAR WEST TEXAS — At least two people died over the holidays in fatal accidents in the tri-county area.
The first accident happened on December 24 on Texas State Highway 118 about 10 miles south of Fort Davis.
At around 5:30 a.m., Thomas Tessier was traveling southbound in a 1993 Dodge pickup when he failed to negotiate a left curve, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. His vehicle left the roadway, entered a sideskid and rolled.
Tessier was wearing a seatbelt, according to TxDPS. The agency did not release Tessier’s age, and his family, who lives in Mansfield, did not respond to a request for comment.
A second accident occurred on December 30 around 11 p.m., on State Highway 17 about 14 miles north of Fort Davis.
Five people were traveling in a 2016 Honda Fit, which struck a wild hog before skidding into a ditch and flipping, according to TxDPS.
Paula Duran, 7, was ejected from the vehicle and life-flighted to Lubbock, where she died. Her mother, Alma Duran-Morales, 33, was also ejected and suffered incapacitating injuries. She was a passenger, according to DPS.
