The county’s various taxing entities have selected board members to represent them on the Presidio County Appraisal District board. The first meeting of the newly selected board will take place Thursday, January 16 at the district offices on Texas Street, and will reconvene every third Thursday.
Alfred Muniz will return to represent Presidio Independent School District, while Marfa Independent School District has selected Teresa Nuñez and Bobbie Lane as their new appraisal board members. City of Marfa’s choice was Councilmember Yoseff Ben-Yehuda and the City of Presidio will be represented by John Ferguson. Rounding out the board, Ann Dunlap and Josie Simpson will represent the interests of Presidio County.
The PCAD board is responsible for hiring the chief appraiser, setting the district’s budget and appointing the appraisal review board, according to the district’s website.
The district is currently seeking five new members to join the appraisal review board. Three will serve a two-year term, while two will serve for one year.
“They need to have been a resident of Presidio County for at least two years before they can be appointed. We like to have, according to the application, somebody with legal background, but anybody who’s interested can do it if they meet the qualifications and are selected by the board of directors,” said Chief Appraiser Cynthia Ramirez.
The appraisal review board is most active during June and July for protest hearings, and members are trained by the state comptroller’s office around March or April. For more information, pick up an application at the appraisal district or on the website at www.presidiocad.org. Applications must be submitted to the PCAD by February 3, 2020.
